Robust Point Correspondence Applied to Two-and Three-Dimensional Image Registration

چکیده
ÐAccurate and robust correspondence calculations are very important in many medical and biological applications. Often, the correspondence calculation forms part of a rigid registration algorithm, but accurate correspondences are especially important for elastic registration algorithms and for quantifying changes over time. In this paper, a new correspondence calculation algorithm, CSM (Correspondence by Sensitivity to Movement), is described. A robust corresponding point is calculated by determining the sensitivity of a correspondence to movement of the point being matched. If the correspondence is reliable, a perturbation in the position of this point should not result in a large movement of the correspondence. A measure of reliability is also calculated. This correspondence calculation method is independent of the registration transformation and has been incorporated into both a 2D elastic registration algorithm for warping serial sections and a 3D rigid registration algorithm for registering pre and postoperative facial range scans. These applications use different methods for calculating the registration transformation and accurate rigid and elastic alignment of images has been achieved with the CSM method. It is expected that this method will be applicable to many different applications and that good results would be achieved if it were to be inserted into other methods for calculating a registration transformation from

متن کاملDPML-Risk: An Efficient Algorithm for Image Registration
Targets and objects registration and tracking in a sequence of images play an important role in various areas. One of the methods in image registration is feature-based algorithm which is accomplished in two steps. The first step includes finding features of sensed and reference images. In this step, a scale space is used to reduce the sensitivity of detected features to the scale changes. Afterw...
متن کاملAn automated technique for SPECT marker-based image registration in radionuclide therapy.
An automated technique for marker-based image registration in radionuclide therapy is described. This technique is based on localization of the centroids of external markers and on establishing correspondence between the individual markers of the two studies to be registered. Localization of the centroids of markers relies on segmenting the markers using iterative thresholding. Thresholding is ...
متن کاملRigid point feature registration using mutual information
We have developed a new mutual information-based registration method for matching unlabeled point features. In contrast to earlier mutual information-based registration methods, which estimate the mutual information using image intensity information, our approach uses the point feature location information. A novel aspect of our approach is the emergence of correspondence (between the two sets ...
متن کاملA Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information
Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...
